Puerto Rican group wants Bobby Knight off State Farm TV ads

A Puerto Rican group denounced State Farm Insurance for using former Indiana Hoosier basketball coach Bobby Knight in its TV advertisements appearing during NCAA March Madness mens college basketball tournament games.

The National Puerto Rican Coalition, a nonprofit, non-partisan Hispanic organization that says it represents the voice of the Puerto Rican community, urged State Farm to pull its ads and apologize to Puerto Ricans.

Knight is now a commentator on ESPN and ABC during their college basketball coverage.

Health insurance companies are not free to run their business the way they see fit, despite what the consumer may perceive. All states pass some type of law to ensure that the consumer receive fair coverage on their policy. A state health insurance law is specific to that state alone, so what applies to health insurance companies in one state does not apply in the next.

NAEA recommendations to shape future of letting?

Landlords may find themselves thinking outside the box when they acquire more property in the future, if calls from the National Association of Estate Agents (NAEA) are taken seriously by the government. It said that ministers needed to consider the option of transforming high street retail property into housing, which is much-needed in certain areas of the country.

Chief executive of the NAEA Peter Bolton King said that the government is yet to formally respond to Mary Portas’ review of the high street, which painted a bleak picture for retail chains that no longer use the space.

Allstate alerts insurance agents of 1099 errors

Allstate Corp., based in Northbrook, Ill., informed its insurance agents about errors in their tax documents regarding two incentive programs.

The form 1099-MISC issued to agents that shows their income for the year reported incorrect income information related to two incentive programs for some agency owners, according to the company. In some cases, it also processed some agency owners income information to the wrong agent identification numbers, officials said.

About 5,400 agent locations managed by 4,700 agency owners (out of about 11,000) were affected, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Allstate issued a corrected Form 1099-MISC to those agents.
