‘Five’ Exciting New Lotuses
Posted on October 26th, 2010

At the recent Paris Motor Show, Lotus revealed five cars that they are set to release over the next five years. This came as a big shock to a lot of the automotive world, who were expecting something big from Lotus, did not expect this. Lotus had hinted at a new generation of the Esprit with a clever and intriguing PR campaign. Well they delivered a new Esprit concept and more; a new Elise, a new Elan, the new 2+2 V8 powered Elite and the Eterne, a Panamera and Rapide rival.
The Esprit is very exciting, set to be the new Lotus supercar. It is powered by a 6 L V8 with 550hp as standard, and combined with a lightweight composite and aluminium body, should be capable of a 0-62mph time of around 3 seconds. Italian supercars beware! The video below shows what we can expect (sort of) from 2013.
Check out all the future cars here, including more pictures and videos.
Now don’t get me wrong, I’m very happy Lotus are pushing on and challenging the big boys and I think the Evora is a great car, but one thing is playing on my mind about these new offerings. Take a look at the pic below…
… Now don’t you think they all look a bit similar. I know marques want to streamline and have a concurrent theme running through their line-up etc. but I think the Hethel designers have gone a bit far. Especially with the Esprit and Elan. Now, it’s a great design, I think the Esprit especially looks great with it’s angular angry and sleek look. Just one rather than five would have done. I could be wrong, feel free to set me straight, they could all have their own unique points but sorry, I can’t get over it! I think Lotus could have been more adventurous with a few of the concepts.
