Britain’s roads could end up looking like a black and white photograph, with over three quarters of all new cars sold in black, white or a shade of grey! The report is from paint firm PPG, who supply most of the automotive industry. The majority of cars, 32%, are sold in a shade of grey (includes silver), with black and white following closely behind with 24% and 20% respectively. White has shown the biggest resurgence after being bottom of the pile ten years ago to being in the top three this year, and probably the most used colour in advertising and promotions.

This is a big change from 10 years ago, with blue accounting for 25% and green for 15%. Now green makes up for less than 1% of the total!
With the majority of new cars bought by fleet buyers, the rise of neutral hues is thought to be because of resale potential. The change could also be “influenced by culture, nature, fashion, movies, media, electronics and many consumer products.” said PPG boss Jane Harrington.
