MAMSI Offers Exercising Tips
Posted on June 26th, 2011
MAMSI from UnitedHealthcare has a convenient link to a variety of wellness programs through MyOptumHealth. One particular program simplifies the daunting task of exercise.
We all know exercise is good for us and the American Heart Association and the American College of Sports Medicine recommend that healthy adults under 65 should do moderately vigorous exercise, such as walking briskly, for 30 minutes a day, 5 days per week. Another option for shorter workouts is to exercise vigorously for 20 minutes, 3 times per week. In addition to these recommendations they believe strength training should be done twice a week.
With this said, starting an exercise routine can be overwhelming for beginners. MAMSI offered some useful tips to get the ball rolling in a healthy way that can help anyone wanting to start an exercise program.
- Check with your doctor about any possible restrictions
- Get the right gear to work out safely
- Start slow, and set realistic goals
- Schedule exercise into your day and stick to it
- Mix up the type of exercise you do
- Reward yourself as small milestones are hit
These tips may seem simple, but they are incredibly effective if you stick to them. Not only will exercise possibly improve your overall health, but you should have more energy, maybe lose excess weight, and help build your self confidence.
