April Fool

Here is a round-up of some of my favourite April Fool pranks played in the media this year.
First up, long time pranksters, BMW, who have this year invented the political roundel attachment tab (PRAT) which will help you display your political allegiance in the run up to the election. BMW’s effort this year seemed relatively obvious, compared with the amazing “magnetic tow” from last year, which a few people in the office believed.

A Trip to the Bubble Car Museum
Posted on May 16th, 2010
On the last Saturday in March, I decided to take the kids down the A17 to the Newark Air Museum. Like most boys, my children are obsessed by anything with a motor, so on the way we decided to stop off at the Bubble Car Museum, which is just off the A17 at a place called Byards Leap, between Sleaford and Newark.
So many car collections are obsessed with the rarest, the biggest, the fastest and the flashest, that it is nice to know that the less spectacular and glamourous cars of this world have a loyal band of enthusiasts that are able to keep alive the memory and share the reality with the next generations.

Car Crash Video – Nuit Blanche
Posted on May 16th, 2010
This is a bit different to the usual videos of car crashes and incidents that we normally post. This video is a short film by filmmaker Arev Manoukian, who has used some amazing high-speed cameras, cutting-edge CGI and old-school matte paintings to capture a hyper-realistic car crash.
The film is black-and-white and has no dialogue, but nonetheless has a noir-ish feel. It has already won the Grand Prix at the LG Filmfest, and must surely be a top contender for a host of other short film awards.

It’s always sad to read in the news of crashes involving teenage drivers, and the high rate of major accidents involving younger drivers is the main reason that teenage car insurance premiums are so high.
One of our neighbouring councils, in conjunction with the Norfolk Constabulary and Norfolk Fire and Rescue service have been giving youngsters a chance to experience the effects of a major crash, without putting themselves at risk. T
Lego Bugatti Veyron
Posted on May 16th, 2010
I wonder if you saw the recent-ish post on the Adrian Flux car magazine blog, Influx, about the amazing Ferrari 250 GTO built in Lego by Ming Thien?
Well it was only a matter of time before someone upped the ante, and what could possibly be more desirable than one of the greatest ever Ferraris? Why the world’s most expensive production car, of course, so step forward the Lego Veyron.
And, as reported on Gizmodo, the car goes beyond making a good fist of capturing the lines of the legendary hypercar. In fact, the Lego engineering recreates many of the trademark features of the Veyron, including the retractable spoiler and air-brake and working, fully independent suspension. T
