If someone drives into the back of your car while you are stationary, you wouldn’t expect to be penalised by your insurer would you? At least, I didn’t – but that’s exactly what happened to me.
The incident happened last summer when a van driver turned into the entrance to the car park I was parked just outside of (in a marked bay), damaging the rear bumper and paintwork of my VW Golf. The van driver admitted fault and we swapped insurance details.
I contacted my insurer, Elephant.co.uk, which is part of the Admiral group, and it swiftly sorted out repairs to my car and, some time later, claimed successfully from the van driver’s insurer. I

Car insurance quotes ‘rise by £50 in three months’

The typical comprehensive car insurance quote for a motorist who shops around has risen by £50 in just three months, and is £130 higher than a year ago.
That was the warning from the AA, which says the “shoparound” price for annual comprehensive cover stands at £971, compared with £921 in October 2011 and £842 in January 2011.
The AA’s shoparound figure is an average of the three cheapest quotes from a range of insurers and brokers, and covers a range of ages.
Drivers between 17 and 22 have been hit by the steepest shoparound percentage increase since October 2011, with the typical premium for this age group standing at £2,497 following a 6.6% rise in the space of three months. By co

Motorists turn to more fuel efficient cars as car insurance costs rise

Motorists are being hard hit with rises in car insurance and petrol and many are thinking of choosing a more fuel efficient car when they next buy one.
According to research carried out by moneysupermarket.com, almost 50 per cent of those questioned believe that they will purchase a more fuel efficient model next time as they try to save money on motoring costs. Around 10 per cent said the price of car insurance will have a direct bearing on which model they buy and some people said that they will be using public transport instead as driving has become too expensive.
